Description
York House is situated 1km from the town of Hillcrest, which lies approximately 700 metres above sea level offering a more temperate climate, away from the high summer humidity of the Durban coastline.
Close to restaurants, pubs and shops. The closest being the Acapulco Pub & Restaurant which is a five minute walk from York House.
We are on the famous Comrades Marathon Route.
Excellent bird watching and walking through indigenous forests at both Krantzkloof Gorge and Shongweni Reserve. Both are a 10 minute drive from York House.
Tala Game Park is a 40 minute drive away, where rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and a wide variety of buck and bird life can be seen.
Valley of 1000 Hills Tourist Route, including PheZulu Cultural Village.
An interesting day trip along the Midlands Meander through Natal Midlands is well worthwhile, offering arts and crafts, historical sites, local brewery and popular pubs and restaurants.
Ten minutes drive from York House and surrounded by a sea of suburbia, the KKNR is a life raft for a vast number of species, many rare and endangered. One of these, Brachysteima natalense, is a plant believed extinct except for the KKNR last small population. The position of many species on the raft is fragile, for as habitat shrink and become more isolated, so the long-term viability of small populations is brought into question.

Driving Directions
coming from joburg/pmaritzburg -Take N3 past Pietermaritzburg, travel for approx 55km. Take M13 split to Hillcrest, travel along the M13, take third exit - exit number 28, must say "Hillcrest Old Main Road". Turn right at T-junction into Old Main Road, travel a short distance through two sets of traffic lights into York Road. We are the third house on the left.
